What does Vitamin D do exactly?

Supplement Geek Spotlight Hello BOSS family! Coming to you early this week but that's okay. I am going to share some knowledge about Vitamin D3. Yes, this is the "sun" vitamin, so let's see how crucial it is for us to obtain enough.Despite the name, vitamin D is considered a pro-hormone and not a vitamin. Vitamins are nutrients that can't be created by the body and needs to be taken in through our diet. However, vitamin D is synthesized by our body when sunlight hits our skin. It is estimated that reasonable sun exposure on bare skin for 5-10 mins, 2-3 times per week allows people to product enough vitamin D. The down side is that vitamin D breaks down quickly, meaning the stores can run low, especially in winter. Studies have suggested that a substantial percentage of the global population is vitamin D deficient. Some benefits of Vit.D are:Healthy Bones:- vitamin D plays a substantial role in the regulation of calcium and maintenance phosphorus levels in the blood. -because of this role, deficiency can contribute to rickets (bow legged appearance due to softening of bones) in children and osteoporosis or osteomalacia in adults. Strengthen Immune System:- studies show that people who aren't deficient in vit.D are less likely to get sick and are at less of a risk of the flu. - children-> 500-1000iu- adults-> 2000iuThere are many other things vitamin D can assist with, some are: -reduces risk of type 2 diabetes- key in healthy pregnancies and in turn infants- some studies show it can help improve depression in high dosages- can help strengthen hair, skin and nailsIn my research, adults should be consuming at least 2000iu daily, especially in the winter time. I personally take 7000iu per day for various reasons. Lastly, never buy tablet versions of this vitamin. It is naturally a liquid which means it should be bought in softgel form for proper adsorption by the body.If you ever have any suggestions or topics you want me to spotlight, feel free to DM the page. Cheers!
