What is Citrulline?
Supplement Geek Spotlight Last post of 2018. Better make it count.Let's have some fun and talk about Citrulline Malate. People love the pump from a preworkout and usually don't know where it comes from.Citrulline is an amino acid that is produced when ornithine combines with carbamoyl phosphate. This happens during the urea cycle. The excess citrulline puts the urea cycle into overdrive, sucking up the workout shortening by product, ammonia.Citrulline is also a by product of arginine conversion in the body. This means the more citrulline the more arginine your blood will have. This is more efficient than consuming supplemental arginine. The form citrulline is usually found bonded to malic acid (malate). It is a salt compound that is used to give it stability in the body. This also gives it and your preworkouts that sour flavour.Sort and sweet. Citrulline has more value than just the skin splitting pumps every arm bro in the gym desires (sorry not sorry lol). It gives added endurance by helping to clear away ammonia and lactic acid. Something I have to add that I didn't talk about earlier is that this added circulation also acts as a nutrient transport system for recovery. Adding a gram to your bcaas etc will help improve recovery without an overpowering sour flavour.Cheers and Happy New Year!
